Michigan DNR REC 101 at Aloha State Park!

9 Jun

August 28, 2013 from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

FREE, hands on basic lesson and familiarization with Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP). Space is limited so sign up early. ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED IN order to meet our minimum. If we do not meet minimums, we will cancel event. You might get wet so please bring swim attire, towel, PFD if you have your own (Type III) and a SMILE! If you have any physical limitations, know that, although this is STAND UP Paddleboarding, you are free to prone paddle, sit, kneel OR stand. We will work with you so that you are comfortable! Paddling equipment will be provided.

Advance Registration required.  Email or Call  to register. Include full names, ages, and contact number for all participants. Note that we require an adult or guardian to be present during the entire event. Adult/Guardian need not actively participate but must be on site.

Our waivers/releases can be found by clicking this link and scrolling to the middle of the page under Forms for download. These forms are required for each participant. If you are unable to print this form, we will have them available at the event. It is recommended that you bring the completed forms with you to expedite the process. This will allow you to get on a board faster than those that do not have their forms completed. This also allows you to contact us with any questions or concerns that you may have.

Although we have USCG approved life jackets for use during our event, we encourage that you bring one of your own. The fact is, you are familiar with your own life jacket. It will likely fit you better than our generic life jacket. This is especially important for children. Children, under the age of 12, are required to have a life jacket on at all times while on the water, whether in a canoe, boat, kayak or stand up paddleboard.

We look forward to watching you walk on water and experience an exciting visual adventure!

Visit the Michigan Department of Natural Resources website for additional activities!

We use GUSU foam soft top boards, Bully Leashes and GUSU Fiberglass Paddles for our demos.  You may view these by visiting our gallery!
